New routine

Mother's Day singing at church

Thought I'd join M3's Fashion Friday challenge this week. Sometimes when Maimie chooses clothes, she picks an outfit that I would pick for her. Nothing crazy, jeans and a shirt. Other times, I wonder if she's serious.

This week she picked a brown tshirt from last year (that is really getting too small and needs to be retired) and then randomly grabbed out a little pale turquoise ruffled skirt with attached panties. My eyes widened as she groped around in the middle drawer until she found some pale pink leggings which she put on over the attached panties of the ruffled skirt. Before leaving the room she decided she needed socks. She only found 1 Belle sock and decided a plain light blue sock would match nicely...??? She chose pigtails (which she calls "Chinese hair") and a red barrette with a red rose bud. When we left for speech therapy, she put the bright pink/orange crocs on (the wrong feet, of course).
Mikaela had an interesting take on her sister's ensemble. She said it was a happy outfit and made her think of bubblegum with the pink and blue.

We're starting to settle into the routine with Daddy's new job. It took a couple of days to get used to having company at lunch every day. Now we quite enjoy it! Maimie absolutely LOVES seeing Daddy come home and has a new lunch time tradition. I started buying cheese sticks for the older kids' lunches. They rarely touch them, but Maimie thinks they are great. When it's nearly time for lunch, she starts saying, "Cheese, Grommit" and heads for the fridge. She gets out two sticks of cheese so that she can share one of her cheeses with Daddy. It's really a hoot. She sits on the floor in front of the fridge while she opens both of the packages. They sort of peel down. When she gets one open and peeled half-way down, she flops it on the floor to start the other. Quite sanitary, I assure you. Then she grabs them by the opened cheese part before handing Daddy his cheese. Yummy!

Today when Daddy was leaving to go back to work after lunch, we had a quick smooch. Maimie started saying "oooh, yuck" then told me, "Don't kiss Daddy's mouth, that's awful!" heh, heh

WOW!

Well, Maimie's outfit earlier this week was pretty normal, so I wasn't going to post for Fashion Friday this week. Then this morning....well, just look for yourself.

Maimie is wearing her new "Belle" socks, a stripey skort from a previous week's challenge, her favorite yellow flowered shirt, and her sister's old dance tutu with--gasp!--red sequin trim. She asked for chinese hair with twisties and then grabbed a Christmas barrette to complete the look. I asked her if she would maybe like to wear some jean capris pants instead since we are going to the doctor's office this morning. She just smiled at me sweetly and said, "No, thanks, Mama. I look so beautiful and shiny!" Well, I can't argue that, can I?
Inhale, exhale, unclench, inhale, exhale....

update: When we got ready to go this morning, Maimie had visited the potty and the skort ended up somehow on top on the tutu. The shoes she chose were these bright new faux crocs in hot pink with neon orange.

We have PUDDING!

Zinnias (left) and "Pudding" (right) next to a teaspoon for scale

Yes, it's true. We have pudding. In an earlier post "Dirt day/ earth day" http://6daysweek.blogspot.com/2009/04/dirt-day-earth-day.html, I told how Maimie planted seeds in little pots and told her daddy that she had planted pudding. We really didn't think it was going to grow at all. It was actually strawberry seeds that we planted, and they were miniscule! Today I checked the pots on the kitchen windowsill when I watered them---and, lo and behold!---the tiniest little sprout. In the above photo, you can barely make out the little green speck in the center of the second pot. But it's there.

PS: Just noticed this evening that the blog has had over 5,000 visitors since we added the NeoCounter widget. Woo Hoo! Perhaps someone other than my mother does read my blog. LOL

May Day

We enjoyed M3's fashion challenge last week over on the Salsa blog, so we decided to turn Maimie loose in her closet again this week.

On Tuesday morning, Maimie picked her "favorite" pale yellow blouse and paired it with some dark pink leggings. Just as I was about to despair over her inability to properly color coordinate, she yanked a multicolored striped skort out of the drawer. Pulling the skort over the leggings, she eyed a gray sweater (who puts GRAY in a toddler's wardrobe, anyway?) she just had to have. Later in the morning, the Hello Kitty socks made a big comeback, too. Maimie chose two braids for her hairstyle with an orange/yellow(?) barrette.

And I guess a girl's just not dressed without a couple of tattoos on the back of each paw. Actually I had an appointment to get my hair done that morning so, yes, we went in public, and, no, it didn't even bother me!

I just had to post this photo of Jacob and Maimie on my--brace yourself--NEW couch! I still can't believe it. Sometimes I just walk past the living room to admire it. My old couches were pretty sad, really. The blue plaid couch has been retired to the rec room over the garage. We have had it for at least 18 years. The white couch is still in the living room until our other sofa (that had to be ordered) gets here. I told Steve it looked like a communion wafer --all small and flat and white-- next to my gorgeous new big lovely brown couch. It's really not the fault of the white couch. After all it has been around for at least 20 years since it got it's start as Steve's "bachelor" couch.

Who is that dapper young lad? It's Joseph, all dressed for Colonial Day today at school. Every year the fifth grade spends a day reenacting a typical day for the early colonists. They spend time in crafts, games, and even food that the colonists would have enjoyed.

Last Sunday, Maimie was still in her church dress and looked cute as a bug. I took her out on the porch while Daddy and the boys were looking for mushrooms and sissy was doing homework. She gets a huge kick out of blowing bubbles. It was actually pretty difficult for her for quite some time with her cleft lip/palate situation. Now that she has mastered it, she wants to do it alot.

Maimie continues to heal from her pharyngeal flap surgery and has progressed in her diet to nearly include everything. I'm still a little leary of chips and very hard/sharp things until it is completely healed, but yesterday I totally forgot and gave her a fortune cookie with her fried rice. She handled it fine, but it wasn't too bright of mom.
