First day of school/ August happenings

I really can't emphasize enough how wonderful it was spending time at the beach last month.  That fact has become even more evident as August has come and nearly gone now with a whirlwind of activity and busyness.
Steven and I celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary on August 4.

Joseph celebrated his 14th birthday on August 10.  The day before his birthday, Joseph invited a couple of friends to camp out in the backyard.  They pitched tents, went to the lake for awhile, built a fire behind our house, then came in for snacks and movies.

Joe, Jack, and Caleb
We celebrated my birthday on August 13, then went into overdrive cleaning, sorting, shopping, and packing Mikaela's gear for college.

We left this past Friday evening, August 17, staying overnight in Valparaiso, Indiana.  Welcome Weekend at Grace College began on Saturday morning.  We unloaded Mikaela's things into her dorm room and gave her some time and space to unpack and organize.  Later that evening we met up at the picnic supper.  There were activities, meals, and a chapel service scheduled over Saturday and Sunday.  Leaving Mikaela on Sunday afternoon was so difficult.  Even though we had a 5 hour drive ahead of us, it was hard not to linger.  I barely made it to the car before the ugly cry.  Certainly there was comfort in knowing that Mikaela is in a wonderful Christian environment where she will meet lots of new Christian friends and grow closer to the Lord as He continues to mold her into the godly woman He intends for her to be.
But, personally speaking, let me just say...
HARDEST.
DAY.
EVER.

Yesterday, another milestone was reached as Jacob (who finished his hours over the weekend) was issued his driver's license.  Unbelievable.

And that brings us to today.  The first day of school.  Today Mikaela attended her first college class.  Jacob drove to school for the first time ever as a junior.  Joseph had his first day of high school today.  Maimie enjoyed her first day of first grade.  And Saidie...well, Saidie was very enthusiastic about her "letter people" today.
