To China with Love

I've been working with Ann at RedThread on a care package for Shen Jia Wen since last week when we received our approval.  It's finally been sent!

We decided to send a soft photo book so that Shen Jia Wen will be somewhat used to what each of us looks like before she actually meets us.  I have discovered through other blogs that the staff at Shenyang orphanage will allow the children to have photo books.  I've heard that many orphanages don't give the child the care package contents until the day they meet their new parents, some not at all.  Others will give only certain items.  So, knowing that our daughter will find out that she has a family and that she will be given our photo book was a great comfort to me.

For various reasons we decided not to send other personal items such as toys or clothes at this point. We did include a disposable camera for the staff to photograph Shen Jia Wen in her environment with her friends and caretakers.  This will probably be returned to us when we are in China.  Also, we sent a couple of boxes of cookies for Shen Jia Wen to share with everyone.

Finally, we included the following letter which Ann has translated into Chinese:

So glad you were able to send the care package this time. At least she will know who you are when she meets you soon! The letter really choked us up! We are so anxious for you to get Shen Jia Wen home! It will also be nice to have photos of her in her orphanage with some of her friends as a keepsake later on. She will be so pleased to share the cookies with her friends!
